The main laboratory activity during the
Hands-on Laboratory takes place in the departments of
Neurobiology (Head: Prof. Reinhard Jahn), the research
is focused on the molecular mechanisms underlying exocytosis
with particular emphasis on synaptic transmitter release;
Molecular Developmental Biology (Head: Prof. Herbert
Jäckle), the main research focus centers on the analysis
of molecular mechanisms of the development of Drosophila;
Cellular Biochemistry (Head: Prof. Reinhard Lührmann),
the research is focused on the analysis of mechanisms
underlying RNA transport and processing;
Techniques employed by these departments widely overlap
and cover most of modern molecular and cellular techniques;
Theoretical and Computational Biophysics (Head: Prof. Helmut
Grubmüller), the research is focused on the analysis of
physics and function of protein complexes at the atomic
level with the use of complex computer simulations of their
atomistic dynamics.
